301`s passing through a Transportr url before going to correct url

Solved!

I have been doing a bunch of work for a client moving sites over to Shopify... so when I saw your plugin I was relieved as creating thousands of 301's manually was not something I wanted to do. However I only just discovered that the 301`s do a redirect through a transportr url first and then onto the correct url... my worry is that search engines only pass page rankings and other relevant data through a single redirection hop. Using unnecessary redirects can have a negative impact on page ranking. So with it 301 redirecting to a transportr url first and then onto the correct url I am worried what we could lose everything!!

Hi Angela,

This is known as a chained redirect. In order for Transportr to track the redirect views, we must first pass the redirect to our services to log the event. This is an optional feature and can be removed if you disable the "redirect proxy" feature when creating redirects. You can remove the proxy for your existing redirects by exporting them to a CSV and reimporting with that option turned off.

There's a lot of misconceptions about chained redirects and SEO rankings. Below is a good read that clarifies that it is not affected.

Hi John,
Another dilemma... we have three separate sites on Shopify and have purchased Transportr for all... I have been importing a bunch of 301s into the one site and thought I would login into the other while the one was importing and noticed that it was importing the same 301s into it as well... since these are separate sites we obviously do not want different 301`s that I import into the other domain. Help!
Thanks in advance!
Angela

Hi Angela,

I think what happened is you were still using the sign-on session from the previous account. When you switch your Shopify accounts, please be sure to relaunch the Transportr app from the apps area in your Shopify admin to ensure it's loading the right account.

Hi John,
Thank you... I will be sure to check that I have logged out of the one before logging into the other.
Many thanks for your help!
Angela
